We’re not sure this is a classic Danish open faced sandwich in the sense that the toppings are a bit untraditional. Fried sage and Dukkah? That’s not what you would typically see in a Danish sandwich shop. But the concept is very typical: Meatball sandwiches are seen everywhere and classic toppings includes sweet pickles, lettuce and mushrooms. We just improvised on the theme, adding a bit of San Diego flair…
Recipe
- 1 slice of dark rye bread
- 2 meatballs
- 1 large leaf of lettuce
- 2 tbs sour cream dressing
- 1 pinch of dukkah
- 1 sweet dill pickle
- 4 leafs of fried sage
- Optional: 1 sautéed or pickled mushroom
- 2 slices of red bell pepper
- butter
Spread the butter on the bread and then place the lettuce leaf on top. Cut two slices of red pepper and place on the lettuce. Heat the meatballs and place on the peppers. Spread the sour cream dressing on top, then place the pickle, mushroom, and fried sage on top. Sprinkle with dukkah.
Sour Cream Dressing Recipe
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 1 garlic
- 1 green onion
Mince the garlic, and cut the green onion into fine slices. Mix it with the sour cream.
