A fresh little appetizer for parties or just for Wednesday night. It’s so easy to make, there really is no reason not to make everyday food a little more interesting. This is also our first ‘sandwich’ without bread, so we’re now starting to push the envelope of our sandwich blog :-).
Surprise your loved one with appetizers after a long day at work, and you’ll be the star of the evening.
Appetizer Recipe
Makes 4 individual appetizers.
- 4 slices of cucumber
- 1 oz of smoked salmon
- 1/2 tsp yellow curry powder OR 1/4 tsp Jamaican curry sauce.
- 1 cup crème fraîche
- 8 capers
- leaf of dill
Mix in the curry with the creme fraiche. This will make too much curry-fraiche, but it will last for several days in your refrigerator, so use the rest with other sandwiches.
Wash the cucumber thoroughly, and cut 4 slices. place 1/4 of the salmon on each cucumber. add 1 tsp of curry-fraiche, 2 capers and a twig of dill to top it off.
Note: If you are consuming this right away, it tastes better if the cucumber is not cold straight from the refrigerator. Leave it out for an hour to get to room temperature before making this. This is at least our preference.

My creme fraiche was runny and ran off the cucumber. Really great taste but presentation was nothing like the picture. What did you use and how did you make it to firm?
I think you might just need a different brand of Creme Fraiche, we didn’t do anything in particular to keep it firm. Perhaps make sure it’s cold enough as well.
