Lavash Art; Bob Marley on a Cracker

We recently got invited to a birthday party, where everyone had to bring ‘art’ appetizers or desserts. We decided to make Lavash, it’s a recipe we make regularly, it tastes great, and the catered food at the event was middle eastern, so it was perfect.  We thought a huge cracker could serve as a perfect canvas for art.

So, we bought a couple of templates, one of fall leaves, and one of Yoda. Wendie printed a black-and-white image of Bob Marley, and cut it into a template as well. And then, off the the ovens.

Garden Zucchini Carpaccio Sandwich

When we make our Garden Zucchini Carpaccio, we sometimes use it as a topping for an impromptu sandwich as well. Since the salad is not very wet, it lends itself perfectly to the bread, and the crunch from the fresh zucchini’s and radishes goes very well with a softer bread without crust.

Caesar Salad, New Years 2012 Gourmet Dinner

First of all, we’re sorry about the VERY slow release of new sandwiches and recipes, we’ve been extremely busy with other projects, but we hope to return to making at least a couple of posts per month.

Last night we had a great New Years eve dinner with our friends. It’s a tradition, and we always cook a 7-course gourmet meal, with each couple making one or two dishes, paired with a great drink/wine. As you can imagine, we’re rather buzzed at the end of the night. Since Wendie got a Thomas Keller The French Laundry Cookbook, she decided to make a Caesar Salad. The Caesar Salad was made with a crouton, which makes it a sandwich (a tiny one) in our mind!

Sandwich: Seared Tuna on Sjufrön Knäckebröd with Feta, Onion, and Soy/Wasabe Sauce

Sometimes we do crazy stuff to our sandwiches which doesn’t work out so well, like our infamous pasta-sandwich. If you don’t try it how would you know, right? This time we did crazy stuff, and it worked out wonderfully, although by any stretch of the imagination this sandwich should not have worked. Perhaps one really can’t do any evil with seared tuna….

Zucchini Fritter Appetizer With Sun Dried Tomato

Once again, we had a refrigerator full of leftovers, so we decided to make a few appetizers for a midday snack. There is no great or deep background story, no childhood memories or frustrations. Just a simple appetizer.

Mini Baguette: Salami Sandwich With Pesto

This is a one-bite sandwich with two thing slices of baguette bread. A bit of pesto, some farmers market salami, tomato from the garden and a touch of green onions. It is great as an appetizer or a very small mid-day snack (Which is how we enjoyed this sandwich).

Jamie’s Bruschetta Appetizer

This is another of Jamie Oliver’s recipes we decided to make along with the “ Grilled Eggplant Crostini Appetizer” and the “Fava Bean Crostini Appetizer” both from his delicious book “Jamie’s Italy“. It’s basically tomatoes, basil olive oil and a slice of bread. The key is as always to use great ingredients for great results. We tweaked it a little like we always do since we believe in creative liberties.

And today we just launched the free Amazing Sandwiches iPad application. Why do you ask? Well, because we can. Browse all our sandwiches in glamorous high-res – literally sandwiches at your fingertips. It’s not fancy, it’s just… sandwiches. Enjoy. Oh, and you can download it directly from here.

Grilled Eggplant Crostini Appetizer

Inspired by Jamie Oliver’s book “Jamie’s Italy” this is one of our favorite appetizers so far this year. It also looks beautiful. The crunchy toasted pane siciliano bread and the smoothness of the eggplant (or Aubergine as we call it in Denmark), goes very well together and fills your mouth with flavor and adventure. Eggplant seems to be largely a forgotten vegetable in the US, at least in SoCal (Southern California), and really it’s a wonderful ingredient in many dishes. People, wake up and smell the eggplant!

Appetizer of Avocado With Lemon/Olive Oil/Cilantro Dressing

Wendie bought these avocados for a salad, and I couldn’t resist the temptation to toast some bread and make a few avocado appetizers. Some would call them mini sandwiches. They’re dead simple and very refreshing when the weather is hot and you have a Sunday evening on the patio with a glass of red wine and Clapton and Bob playing in the background.

Recipe: Grilled Salmon Crispbread Appetizer

Ahh, the joy of simplicity. A crispbread with italian salsa verde, a slice of leftover grilled salmon, and a leaf of fresh basil. Works extremely well with with a glass of chilled white wine when taking a break from doing yardwork.
